Entrance Essay

I would like to share a story from my Grandfather for my essay.   My Grandfather attended Augsburg in the early 1950’s for three years just before he went into the Navy.   He has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s for about two years now and his health is up and down.

My Grandpa told me that he had very exciting news!   He was getting company, old friends he hasn’t seen in years.   I asked him who was coming to visit and this is what he told me.   His years in college were some of the best years he remembers and he had some buddies he went skiing with, played football with and even did schoolwork with.   Well somehow they got wind that Grandpa wasn’t doing too well and called him up.   He hasn’t seen them in years and was thrilled to hear from them.   Grandpa doesn’t hear so well anymore so I’m sure Grandma was there to assist.   But after all is said and done, three old buddies are coming to visit the first part of March and Grandpa is thrilled.   He said they made his day, no week, no month, maybe even year!

So what I am trying to say is that I would be proud to be part of a school that encourages and nurtures students in such away that they build relationships that truly last a lifetime.   I would like to know that I am that type of person that would be there for my friends fifty years from now to help them in any way possible.   College is about education but it is about people first and Augsburg has proven to me they are a people first community.
