The Picture Essay

Growing up in a family of five kids, I was constantly in the gym. Especially for my brother and sister’s basketball games. I was only about three or four at the time so I never really paid attention to the games and instead just ran around and caused trouble. I guess you could consider me as just a little gym rat.
During the games me and my sister, who was about five at the time, would go off in the high school and find something to do. We eventually found this room filled with all the wrestling mats which was where we spent most of the time during the games. It was the absolute perfect place for a kid. We would spend hours in there just playing hide and go seek and wrestle each other until we were burnt out. Also, when we were looking around the school we found this small slide in the back of the stairs of the atrium. This is also where we spent most of our time. We would pretend that we were rock climbing and try to get to the top or play lava tag and try not to fall off the slide. But going to these games also is one of the main reasons what made me to love basketball to this day.
Before a basketball game I would get excited to go play on the mats or the slide but also I couldn’t wait for the game. Even though I only knew a little about basketball at the age of four I still loved when the crowd really got into the it. I used to love when it came down to the end and the crowd would all be on there feet and screaming for there team. And I still now love when the crowd goes crazy at the end of the game.
Going to my brother and sister’s games is really how I got to love the game of basketball. I’m used to the atmosphere of the gym and the screams from the crowd. And Now since I’m the one in high school I hope that my little nephew will be doing the same thing as I did when I was his age.
